Aston Villa’s defending and desire to win was slammed as they could only manage a 1-1 draw at struggling Nottingham Forest.
Steven Gerrard’s men fell behind early on as an unmarked Emmanuel Dennis nodded them in front as he got on the end of a free-kick from the right.
And Danny Murphy couldn’t believe the defending he was seeing from the away side.
He said “It’s a great ball by Gibbs-White and a good header by Dennis but I don’t know where Tyrone Mings is… it’s a give-away goal. Concentration poor, Steven Gerrard will be fuming.
“This is the Premier League, you can’t defend like that.”
It didn’t take long for Villa to level the match as Ashley Young brilliantly fired the ball past Dean Henderson from 20 yards out.
The goal was Young’s first in his second spell at the club and it was his first strike for Villa in 4,175 days.
Villa were the better side after the break with Ollie Watkins’ header being saved by Henderson, while Jacob Ramsey failed to find Watkins when played clean through down the channel.
But despite their relative dominance, Gerrard’s men were accused of not doing enough to get the three points.
Murphy said at full time: “I think Villa tried to win it but at their own leisure. The urgency wasn’t there.”
Meanwhile, Roy Keane said: “From Villa’s point of view, they’ve got no bottle, that team.
“For all their so-called attacking players, they didn’t do enough to get a result, they’ll be kicking themselves.”
He continued: “I couldn’t believe how bad their attacking players were.”
