Paul Robinson has applauded Aston Villa for handing Dean Smith the final say on transfers at the club.
The former Spurs and Leeds United goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claims it will “inevitably cost a manager his job” if he does not have control of the club’s recruitment.
Villa appointed Johan Lange as their new sporting director in July, the 41-year-old having previously worked for six years at FC Copenhagen in his native Denmark.

The Athletic‘s Gregg Evans revealed that Dean Smith will “pick the players” that come through the door at Villa Park but Lange will “contribute with options to consider”.
After the sacking of former sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch in July, following a summer of poor investment in 2019, the club reviewed and changed their transfer policy.
When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the new recruitment structure at Villa, Robinson said: “I really like that.
