Agbonlahor: Archer ‘not happy’ and may push for Aston Villa exit after confirmed news

Cameron Archer may look to leave Aston Villa on loan in the January transfer window, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer delivered his verdict after Archer was left out of the England Under-21 squad.

The 20-year-old has only played 18 minutes of football across three substitute appearances this season despite signing a new five-year contract in the summer.

The striker has four goals in four games for England Under-21s but his lack of game time at Aston Villa this term has seen him drop out of the squad.

After impressing on loan at Preston North End last season, there were plenty of suitors for Archer in the summer and Agbonlahor has suggested it could be something he explores next year.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “He won’t be happy but it was obvious he wasn’t going to get the minutes.

“[Ollie] Watkins is a very good striker so he’s going to play him. Then you’ve got [Danny] Ings who is going to be second choice.

Archer must have known he was going to be third choice so he’s got to accept that and try and get out on loan in January.

“At his age, you never want to be getting a couple of minutes here and there, you want to be playing regularly.

“That’s what he needs to do, go to the Championship and play. He needs to revalute in January because he’s not going to get the minutes at all.

“Sometimes Villa will want to play one up front, then he’s got to get off after Ings, Ings is always going to be the first sub if he’s not starting.”
