Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Aston Villa to sign a right-back and goalkeeper to complete their summer business after sealing a club-record move for Moussa Diaby.
The former Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed a striker would also be on his wishlist – but admitted keeping Cameron Archer around would be a satisfactory outcome.
Aston Villa confirmed the arrival of Diaby on Saturday (22 July), with the 24-year-old becoming the club’s third signing this summer.
As per The Guardian (22 July), the Midlands giants have paid a club-record £51.9million for the winger – who had been recently linked with Arsenal.
Diaby becomes Unai Emery’s third major signing this summer after the captures of Pau Torres and Youri Tielemans in recent weeks.
Aston Villa will play Europa Conference League football next term after securing a seventh-place finish under the Spaniard.
Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “If I’m being greedy, I think we should go out and get another right-back.
“I think we need the backup for Matty Cash.
“And another goalkeeper should come in. We’ve got to get a better backup to Emi Martinez, in case we lose him to injury or when he’s away with Argentina.
“But I think we’re really close to where we want to be.
“If a goalkeeper and a right-back come in, that’s a really good window.
“In a perfect world, we’d have another striker. But if we keep Cameron Archer around, then I think we are set for the season.”
