Aston Villa do not need to sign a player like Jannik Vestergaard, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer insisted the club is well-stocked at centre-back and do not need to sign another one.
Sources told Football Insider earlier this week (6 December) that Aston Villa will be offered the opportunity to sign Vestergaard in the January transfer window.
Leicester City accepted an offer for the 30-year-old from Fulham in the summer but he opted to stay and fight for his place at the King Power Stadium.
He has just over 18 months remaining on his contract but is down the pecking order under Brendan Rodgers.
The Denmark international has only made six Premier League starts since his £15million move from Southampton in the summer of 2021 and has not featured in the top flight this term.
Asked for his verdict on a potential move, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I don’t think we need him, not at all.
“He went to Leicester and didn’t play.
“Centre-half wise, we’re fine. We’ve got Tyrone Mings, Jan Bednarek, Ezri Konsa and Calum Chambers and Diego Carlos will be back soon, I’m sure.
“I don’t think that’s something we need, to be honest.”
Mings and Konsa have started both of Unai Emery’s Premier League games in charge before the World Cup break.
Aston Villa return to action on Boxing Day when they welcome Liverpool to Villa Park.
