Agbonlahor issues three-word claim on Martinez blow after confirmed :

The change of goalkeeper coach at Aston Villa will not have a detrimental impact on Emiliano Martinez, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer insisted Unai Emery bringing in his own man is “very common”.

Aston Villa confirmed earlier this week (31 October) that Neil Cutler had left his role after almost four years and Martinez took to Instagram to claim football was “not fair” as he labelled him the “best English coach”.

The club then confirmed on Friday (4 November) that Francisco Javier Garcia – who worked with Emery at Sevilla, Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Villareal – was the new goalkeeper coach.

Asked whether he thought the change will have a big impact on Martinez, Agbonlahor told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley: “Not really, no.

“There was a goalkeeper coach when I was in the youth team called Eric Steel and he coached under different managers. The goalkeeper coach stayed on out of all the coaching staff.

“But managers, sometimes when they come to a club, they want the whole of their team to be people they know and trust.

“It’s very common for the goalkeeper coach. Sometimes managers bring in their own doctors and physios. A lot can change.

“I’ve got no problem with it. Neil Cutler did an amazing job but you understand a new manager wants their own people. Neil Cutler will understand that.

“Especially when you’ve got a Spanish coach they want people who speak the language so it’s easier to speak to them and you can trust them. It can just be as simple as that.

“Most managers that I had brought in their own goalkeeper coaches so it’s nothing new in the football world.”
