John McGinn is “wasted” in a deep midfield role and should be played further forward at Aston Villa, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer insisted the Scotland international has all the attributes to play in the number 10 role.
The 26-year-old was pushed further forward for the first time this season at the weekend as Villa looked for a way to win without their captain Jack Grealish.
While they beat Fulham 3-1, the game changed with the introduction of Keinan Davis as Villa played with two strikers.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Dean Smith insisted one of his options without Grealish was to push McGinn further forward.
