Ashley Young joked he can’t believe former Aston Villa teammate Gabby Agbonlahor has secured a job as a radio pundit.
Villa captain Young joined talkSPORT Breakfast, and couldn’t help but aim a few digs at his good friend Agbonlahor.
The duo played together 167 times at Villa Park between 2007 and 2011, and even before that at Watford.
During that time, Villa made the Carabao Cup final, and regularly secured top six finishes, while Agbonlahor became the club’s record Premier League scorer.
Since retiring in 2018, he’s gone on to become a talkSPORT host and achieved fame on the radio, something which has stunned Young.
When asked by Laura Woods if he ever saw it coming, Young replied: “Seriously, you know when you speak about Gabby being on radio, he’d have been the last person I’d have thought would be talking.
“Obviously we love his broad Birmingham accent, but seriously, he was terrible when he was speaking in the dressing room.”
“Behave yourself!” Agbonlahor said back.
“He’s alright now, he obviously must have had a lot of training at some point,” Young replied.
Wanting to get in on the jokes, Ally McCoist then quipped “You’ve got to accept he’s got the perfect face for it!”
“I wasn’t going to say it so I’ll let you say it,” Young replied, to much laughter.
