Alan Hutton has backed Aston Villa to sign Matteo Guendouzi.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Villa right-back said a player like Guendouzi would bring “fire” into the midfield.
On 14 January, Football Insider revealed that Unai Emery’s side have opened talks to sign the 23-year-old from Marseille and have discussed offering a player in part-exchange.
The midfielder is valued at around £30million by the French club and negotiations have already begun over a deal between the sides.
Villa have discussed a cash plus player part-exchange and have suggested Morgan Sanson could be included as part of the deal.
Guendouzi’s contract with the Ligue 1 side expires in 2025 after he joined permanently in the summer following a loan spell.
When asked if the France international would fit into the Villa side, Hutton told Football Insider: “He would definitely bring fire into that midfield.
“He is a fiery character as we have seen at Arsenal and even Marseille as well. He is still very young, the manager will know him well and know how to get the best out of him which is a plus.
“It is an area where I keep seeing names linked with Villa. It is somewhere Emery obviously wants to improve. I think someone coming with room to get better and provide competition for places is a good thing.“

Guendouzi has made 24 appearances for Marseille across all competitions this season.
He has cored three goals and provided four assists in those outings.
