The 28-year-old helped fire the Cherries to the Premier League in his first season at the club, and he excelled over the next four years in England's top flight, even earning four caps at international level with the Three Lions.

But Wilson was unable to prevent Bournemouth from slipping to relegation last year, and his services are now in high demand among Premier League sides in search of a proven goalscorer. According to Craig Hope of The Mail, Villa have targeted the England international for the 2020/21 campaign and have submitted a £21m bid in an attempt to scare off any opposition in pursuit of the forward.

Fellow top-flight outfit Newcastle have expressed their own interest in landing Wilson from the Championship Cherries and the Magpies have already offered £20m to get their man.

It is believed that the striker's preference would be to join Steve Bruce's side, although Villa's determination and higher bid could prove to be the difference in the negotiations.

Wilson is keen to secure the best move possible for his career, as he has not given up on his dreams of returning to the England fold ahead of the rearranged Euro 2020 tournament next summer.

His ambitions of joining Newcastle prove he believes he stands the best chance of returning to international duty with a move to St James' Park.

Villa are not out of the race, although they may be forced to look elsewhere should Wilson be granted his wish of teaming up with Bruce on Tyneside. The Villans had originally submitted a £15m bid for the ex-Coventry City star, but Bournemouth rejected the offer, intent on receiving the maximum transfer fee available for their talisman.
