Aston Villa continue summer spending spree by signing ex-Chelsea forward Bertrand Traore from Lyon

Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of former Chelsea forward Bertrand Traore from Lyon.

The 25-year-old, who left Stamford Bridge for Lyon in 2017, has returned to England in a £19million deal.

Burkina Faso international Traore has also had loan spells with Dutch clubs Vitesse and Ajax.

Traore becomes Villa’s fifth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Emi Martinez, Ben Chrisene, Matty Cash and Ollie Watkins.

The Villains have also secured the long-term future of Jack Grealish by tying him down to a new contract.

Details of Traore’s contract at Villa Park have not been announced by the club.

Aston Villa have landed former Chelsea player Bertrand Traore

Villa boss Dean Smith told his club’s website: “We’re delighted that Bertrand has chosen to come to Villa.

“He’s a player with immense talent who will really enhance our attacking options.”

Villa legend Gabby Agbonlahor believes convincing Grealish to stay will prove bigger than any signing the club make.

“I’ve played with some great players but for natural ability I’ve got to say Jack Grealish [is the best],” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT.

“I know that will upset a few players I’ve played with but for me I’ve seen nothing like him. Even in training.

“The quickest players, the best defenders, he will run past you like you’re not there.
