Aston Villa may sell star defender Tyrone Mings for £30million if they get relegated, Football Insider understands.
This site revealed earlier this week that Everton are interested in signing the England international, 27, in the upcoming transfer window.
A Villa source has told Football Insider that the club know their chances of keeping hold of Mings will dramatically plummet if they go down this month.
It is expected that the club’s star defender will lead an exodus also including captain Jack Grealish if Dean Smith’s side fail in their bid to survive relegation.
They face an uphill battle to stay up despite Sunday’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace and are four points adrift of 17th-placed Watford with three matches remaining.
The source explained that Villa recognise their bargaining power would be significantly reduced by relegation and, coupled with tumbling transfer fees following the pandemic, that could mean a £30m fee could be enough to sign Mings.
He has had an impressive campaign despite Villa’s defensive troubles that has seen them ship 65 league goals.
It is the second worst record in the division behind only Norwich City, who have already been relegated.
Everton are in the market for a left-sided centre-back in the upcoming window and Mings is one of their top targets.
He initially joined Villa on loan from Bournemouth in January of last year and the deal became permanent last summer for an initial £20m fee rising to £26m.
