Aston Villa news: Bent – Grealish miost delighted by McGinn return

Darren Bent claims Jack Grealish will be “more delighted than anyone” to have Aston Villa teammate John McGinn back in the team.

The former Villa and England hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes the Scotland international can help take a weight off the 24-year-old’s shoulders in the club’s final 10 games of the season.

Ahead of the impending return of the Premier League season, Grealish told Sky Sports that McGinn’s return is “massive” for the Villans and heralded his influence both on and off the pitch.

Bent insists that the 25-year-old can help relieve the pressure Grealish has had to shoulder as the club’s talisman, suggesting Villa would be better placed if the former Hibs man had stayed fit.

Bent told Football Insider: “It’s massive – hopefully now Jack’s back won’t be as sore because he’s been carrying that team for a long time now. I’m sure he’s more delighted than anyone to see John McGinn come back.

“McGinn was brilliant last season, brilliant earlier on this season when he wasn’t injured. The work rate he puts in, the quality he has with the ball at his feet, the combination him and Jack have got, it’s just another top-quality player they’ve got.

“I’m pretty sure if he’d stayed fit and him and Jack could have stayed in for the majority of the season, I would have liked to think Villa would be in a much better position than they are in.

“They’ve got him back in that crucial part of the season so that is like having a brand new, top-quality signing, he is massive for Aston Villa coming back out of this injury.”

McGinn suffered a broken ankle back in December and was on the brink of returning to action when the season was suspended.

He has a total of 20 games under his belt this season, with three goals and two assists to his name.
