Aston Villa news: Phillips claims Terry is ready for Bristol City job

Kevin Phillips suspects that John Terry is ready to leave Aston Villa for a management role as Bristol City consider him for their vacant position.

The former Leicester and Stoke assistant manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, insisted he was ready to be a manager after two years of coaching and is sure Terry is the same.

The former Chelsea captain has been Dean Smith’s assistant at Villa Park since he was appointed manager in October 2018.

Football Insider revealed that Terry is in the frame to succeed the recently sacked Lee Johnson at Ashton Gate.

Phillips claimed his appointment would be a “great advert” for you managers.

“It is clear that he wants to become a manager,” he told Football Insider.

“He has seen his mates do it and his best mate in Frank Lampard do it and be a success.

“John has been a coach now a couple of years so he would have learned a lot.

“It is of no surprise to me that he is being linked with it. After two years as a coach, from my own experience, I was ready to take that next step.

“It would be another great advert for giving new manager’s a chance if Bristol City are to appoint John.”

However, when quizzed on the speculation, Dean Smith told Sky Sports: “I have spoken to John and he is fully committed to our cause here at Aston Villa.”
