Aston Villa news: Robinson fears "tough" end to the season for Reina

Paul Robinson has claimed it “will be tough” for Pepe Reina in the remaining 10 games as the goalkeeper prepares to play a vital role for Aston Villa in the relegation fight.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Spurs and Leeds United shot-stopper admitted whilst the 37-year-old has been “an outstanding signing”, Tom Heaton will be missed.

Heaton revealed to Sky Sports last week that he will not be fit for the remaining 10 games of the campaign as the Premier League prepares to restart on 17 June.

Villa’s number one was ruled out for the season after he suffered knee ligament damage  on his victorious return to Burnley on New Year’s Day.

However, there had been hopes that the England international would bit fit to return in June or July given the league has been been postponed since mid-March.

When asked by Football Insider if the pressure is now on Reina to deliver for the Claret and Blue, Robinson said: “Pepe Reina was an outstanding signing for them.

“But as much as Pepe Reina has been a great signing and is someone great for Tom to learn and bounce off, they will miss Tom.

“Reina was having a fantastic season and Nyland has come in and done OK.

“Smith acted quickly and very well by recruiting Pepe Reina. It was a very astute signing but it will be tough for him between now and the end of the season.”

The former Liverpool keeper arrived on a six-month loan deal from AC Milan in January but that deal is expected to be extended to allow the Spaniard to complete the season.

Reina has made 6 Premier League appearances this term this term and conceded 13 goals.

In other Aston Villa news, Darren Bent has told Football Insider club would already be relegated if it was not for this player.
