Aston Villa ‘not happy’ with Gerrard after source’s reveal – pundit

Paddy Kenny is adamant Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard “is under pressure” after a goalless draw at Leeds United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Premier League goalkeeper said the Midlands club “have not progressed” since the dismissal of Dean Smith.

Villa drew 0-0 at Elland Road on Sunday (2 October).

The result felt like two points lost for the visitors as Leeds winger Luis Sinisterra was sent off in the opening stages of the second half.

Sources told Football Insider (30 September) that the Villa board are sounding out Mauricio Pochettino and Unai Emery over their manager’s job.

Gerrard has three years remaining on his contract at Villa Park.

When asked by Football Insider if Sunday’s draw puts the ex-Rangers boss under severe pressure, Kenny said: “100 per cent he is under pressure.

“Playing against a 10-man Leeds United side for 45 minutes you would expect them to win.

“They have only won twice this season. There are a few teams in the same boat. There has been a lot of draws.

“Gerrard is going to be under pressure. If you do not win for three or four games you are under pressure as a manager, I do not care who you are.

Aston Villa

“Villa fans have been after Gerrard for a while now. They are not happy. They do not look to have progressed since Dean Smith. Let’s not forget, they have spent money.

“It is a difficult league though so I think he deserves more time.”
