Aston Villa offer Davis new three-year deal – Exclusive

Aston Villa have offered striker Keinan Davis a new three-year contract, Football Insider can reveal.

The Midlands giants have made a move to keep hold of the 22-year-old rather than risk losing him on a free transfer at the end of the season.

A Villa source has told Football Insider that Dean Smith has given the green light for Davis to be handed a two-year extension to his current deal.

This site exclusively revealed back in April that Villa had triggered an option to keep Davis at the club for a further 12 months, until the summer of 2021.

That was subsequently confirmed by the Midlands giants ahead of the front man’s previous contract expiring in June.

Villa have subsequently signed Ollie Watkins for an initial £28million rising to a potential £33m.

They are also close to finalising the signing of a second new striker after Lyon accepted an offer for Bertrand Traore of £17million plus a potential £3m of add-ons.

But Villa still have high hopes for home-grown Davis, who is highly rated by Smith despite his lack of goals at first-team level.

He was blocked out from going on loan last season and, after a hamstring injury sidelined him for three months, was a regular starter after the lockdown due to the absence of Brazilian Wesley.

Davis made 23 senior appearances last season, four of which were Premier League starts, but scored just a single goal.

Since graduating from the Villa youth set-up, the attacker has made 67 appearances for the club and scored four goals and supplied five assists.

In other news, Aston Villa beat Newcastle United to signing after personal terms agreed.
