Aston Villa plotting audacious move for England and Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier – reports

Aston Villa are lining up a bold move for England and Atletico Madrid star Kieran Trippier, according to reports.

The former Tottenham full-back moved to Spain last summer after falling out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino in north London.

Trippier could be on his way out of Atletico

Tripper has become an integral part of Diego Simeone’s defence on the right-hand side, making 31 appearances in all competitions in his debut campaign.

As well as his incredible attacking contributions, the 29-year-old is viewed by Dean Smith as providing much-needed experience and defensive nous to a backline which conceded 67 goals in the Premier League last season.

According to The Telegraph, Smith wants to bring Trippier to Villa Park in order to provide competition for Ahmed Elmohamady and Frederic Guilbert.

Villa are content to either do a permanent deal or a loan, with the former Burnley full-back suffering terribly from groin injuries last season.

Despite the injury issues, Tripper helped Atletico to a third-placed finish in LaLiga and featured in the Champions League quarter-final defeat – knocking out Liverpool back in March.

Overall, the right back made 114 appearances for Spurs between 2015 and 2019, while he also became a regular in the England set-up under Gareth Southgate.

He began his career at Manchester City, but never went on to make a senior appearance at the Etihad before moving to Turf Moor in 2011.
