Aston Villa told to block Martinez deal after source’s reveal – expert

Gabriel Agbonlahor has insisted Aston Villa “don’t need to sell” Emiliano Martinez this summer despite interest from Premier League giants.

The former Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, believes his old club should be in no rush to cash in on the World Cup winner.

Martinez, 30, has four years remaining on his current contract at Villa Park after signing an extension in January 2022.

Agbonlahor insisted Aston Villa and Emery are in control due to Martinez’s long-term contract with the club.

“Some players jump ship at any opportunity,” he told Football Insider.

“But I’m hoping he sees the other side. Yes, there’s going to be interest from top clubs but it’s also going to come down to Aston Villa.

“They don’t need to sell him. He’s on a long-term contract, and they can demand big money and price him out of a move.

“If I was Aston Villa, I’d do that. Goalkeepers are so important nowadays.

“Aston Villa need to keep Martinez. Look at the Premier League, he’s one of the best in the league.

“Leeds have struggled with Meslier, because he’s not good enough.”
