Bent reacts to Matty Cash pursuit

Darren Bent insists it would be “brilliant” for Aston Villa if they can beat West Ham to the signing of Nottingham Forest ace Matty Cash.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Villa and England striker admits Dean Smith could do with some more Premier League experience but that the right-back would be a welcome addition to the squad.

As revealed by Football Insider, the Villans are set to trump the likes of West Ham and complete the signing of the 23-year-old for a fee of around £12million next week.

Bent insists that the Forest star has proven himself worthy of a chance of playing among England’s elite after a number of seasons in the Championship and that Villa would be a great move for him.

Bent told Football Insider: “I still think they need a little bit Premier League experience, they definitely need another centre-forward, I know that for a fact, someone that’ll stick the ball in the net.

“I like Matty Cash, I think he’s played well enough for a sustained amount of time now and has earned the right to try the Premier League and give it a go.

“If they can beat West Ham out for his signing then brilliant.”

Cash played 42 times in the Championship last season as Forest missed out on a play-off spot on goal difference alone.

He has a total of 129 second-tier appearances under his belt after his rise through the youth ranks at the Forest Ground.
