Bissouma ‘jumping’ at Aston Villa move after source’s transfer update – pundit

Yves Bissouma would jump at the chance to play under Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister at Aston Villa, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England full-back also suggested Aston Villa will sign a new centre-back this summer.

A recruitment source told Football Insider on Thursday (7 April) the club have been in contact with Bissouma’s camp about a summer move.

The Midlands giants had a £20million-plus January bid for the 25-year-old turned down by Brighton & Hove Albion.

He is out of contract in the summer of 2023 and Brighton are braced for bids.

“Steven Gerrard is realistic, he’s gone in there and done a good job,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Philippe Coutinho was a one-off and that was purely because of the relationship he has with Gerrard.

“When you talk about going to the next level, they are not going to compete with Liverpool, Man City and Man United for players.

“They’re looking at that next level down, that tier of players below that. Gerrard will know that and will want to bring in players who are better than what they’ve got now.

Aston Villa

“The club have got money, they are ambitious. Two or three signings wouldn’t surprise me, a defensive midfield player and maybe a centre-half.

Bissouma would improve them and improve under Gerrard. Any midfield player thinking ‘Am I going to improve at Aston Villa?’ Well, there’s Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister there. There’s not a lot more knowledge you can get. He’ll jump at it.”
