Brown – Grealish contract a 'great signing'

Michael Brown has tipped Aston Villa to make more new signings before the end of the transfer window after Jack Grealish penned a new long-term contract.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Premier League midfielder believes that the Villans have managed to convince the 24-year-old of their future plans with their big spending since promotion to the Premier League.

Villa confirmed earlier this week that Grealish, the club’s captain, had committed himself to a new five-year contract at Villa Park.

The club have also been busy in the transfer market with the high-profile signings of Matty Cash, Ollie Watkins and Emiliano Martinez.

Brown has lauded the Villa board for their financial backing and believes there could be more new faces through the door before October’s deadline.

Brown told Football Insider: “It’s a great signing, you would have said he would have gone but obviously they’ve made a contract that he wants to sign and wants to commit his future to.

“Not only that, he sees his future there. He’s not signing it for the sake of it, he’s signing because he wants to play football there.

“It’s a great signing, they’re still trying to get a few more through the door. He sees that there’s progression there, this is natural progression for him and he must do with the length of the deal.

“They spent £100million-odd at the start of last summer, they’re probably at £50million-plus this summer, so you can see the intent from the board, no one can question the backing that Aston Villa are putting into the football club.”

Villa spent an initial £17million on Martinez and £12million on Cash, though both deals could rise in add-ons.
