Callum Wilson to Newcastle: Bournemouth accept £20m offer for striker as Aston Villa withdraw from negotiations

Bournemouth have accepted a £20m bid from Newcastle for striker Callum Wilson, talkSPORT understands.

Aston Villa have pulled out of the race for the England international – despite their offer being higher than Newcastle’s – after Wilson indicated a desire to move to St James’ Park.

Wilson will now discuss personal terms with Newcastle

The England forward, 28, is a wanted man this summer following his side’s relegation to the Championship.

Aston Villa had a £15m offer rejected on Friday as manager Dean Smith looks to solve his striking woes.

And the Magpies attempted to swoop in and beat the Villans to their transfer target with a bigger bid of £20m.

Almost immediately, though, the Midlands side slapped in a counter offer of £21m to Bournemouth.

Lewis also looks to be heading to St James’ Park

The interest in the forward is understandable having see him fire home 44 goals in all competitions in 137 games, despite two serious knee injuries, over five campaigns in the Premier League.

Wilson’s form earned him an international call up in 2018 and he scored for England on his debut against United States at Wembley in a 3-0 victory, while he’s made a further two appearances since.

The latest developments will come as a huge boost to Toon boss Steve Bruce, who is also close to wrapping up a £13.5m deal for Norwich left-back Jamal Lewis.
