Campbell hits back after ‘laughable’ Mings claim on talkSPORT – ‘it’s nonsense’

Kevin Campbell has claimed it is “nonsense” to suggest Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings is not good enough for England.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Arsenal and Everton striker pointed said the 29-year-old did “as well as any centre-half this season” against Erling Haaland.

Mings was not named in the Three Lions squad for Nations League fixtures against Italy and Germany.

Speaking on talkSPORT (27 September), ex-Leeds United full-back Danny Mills said the Villa centre-back is not an option for Gareth Southgate because “he is terrible.”

Campbell hit back at Mills for what he described as “laughable” comments.

“Tyrone Mings is not terrible,” he told Football Insider.

“I don’t know why these guys come out and say rubbish like that.

“Tyrone Mings has played international football and did well in the Euros. All of a sudden he is not good enough? That is nonsense.

“The bottom line is England have a lot of good centre-halves. Every player in their career has lost form. That is just fact.

“If you do not get picked and the manager wants to see other players they does not make you a terrible player. It makes me laugh hearing that.

“Mings did as well as any centre-half this season against Haaland. Haaland was kept quiet.”

Aston Villa

Mings has made six appearances across all competitions this season.

He has been capped by England 17 times.
