Aston Villa star Matty Cash will choose to sign for Atletico Madrid in an offer comes in this summer.
That’s according to former Villains hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider amid an update on the defender’s future.
As revealed by Football Insider on Monday (21 March), Villa are preparing a big-money contract offer to tie Cash down amid interest from Atletico Madrid.
A Spanish source has told this site the La Liga heavyweights have been keeping close tabs on the 24-year-old right-back.
They have been making regular checks on the defender ahead of the summer.
McAvennie claims Cash would jump at the chance to work with Diego Simeone.
“That’s a hard proposition to turn down, Birmingham or Madrid?” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“It’s all about money these days, I would love to say it’s about the team but it’s not.
“He’s going to get more money in Madrid and he’s going to get a better way of life.
“It’s a different culture and he will love it. That’s before you get to the chance of winning things.
“I love Aston Villa as well, they are a big club but they aren’t up there with Atletico in terms of winning trophies.
“If it’s between Atleti or Villa, to go and play under Simeone would be magnificent.”
Cash has made 31 appearances in all competitions for Villa this season.
He has scored three goals and provided four assists for his teammates.
