Coutinho could be bombed out of Aston Villa after what pundit spotted – ‘disaster’

Kevin Campbell has claimed Unai Emery could look to “cash in” on Philippe Coutinho unless he can prove himself to be an “asset” for Aston Villa.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 30-year-old’s reported £125,000-a-week wage could be a “recipe for disaster” for his Villa Park future.

The midfielder is currently recovering from a thigh injury which saw him miss out on the Brazil squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

Aston Villa

Coutinho is yet to register a goal or assist in 12 appearances since joining Aston Villa from Barcelona on a permanent basis for a reported £17million in the summer.

In his absence, new boss Unai Emery registered back-to-back victories in his first two games in charge to lift the Midlands giants into 12th in the Premier League.

Energetic youngster Jacob Ramsey has impressed in a new left-sided role with Coutinho out injured.

Campbell conceded Coutinho could explode in an Aston Villa shirt now they are a “team full of confidence”.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Unai Emery got a tune out of Villa without Coutinho in the side.

“He’s a high earner, and if he’s not going to play – it could be a recipe for disaster.

Aston Villa

“All it takes though is one injury for Coutinho to come back in, and come in to a team full of confidence. That could change things for him.

“If he’s not playing, and not in the plans of Emery – then he’s not an asset, and Emery will be looking for a way to cash in and get that big wage off the books.”
