Dean Smith could be the man tasked with keeping Leicester in the Premier League this season.
The Foxes are seeking a new managerial appointment following Brendan Rodgers’ departure and Smith is likely to get the job on an interim basis.
Leicester are second from bottom and two points from safety.
Other candidates interested were former Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira, while Jesse Marsch and Rafa Benitez have also been linked.
Smith, who has managed Aston Villa in the Premier League, has been out of work since leaving Championship side Norwich in December.
The Foxes have eight games left to secure their Premier League survival and when asked on White and Jordan what happens next for Leicester, talkSPORT’s Alex Crook said: “I think it’s difficult to hire a permanent manager this late in the season.
“We’ve seen that with Chelsea, which is why Frank Lampard has gone back in there just to try and steady the ship in the short-term and maybe pull off a miracle in the [Santiago] Bernabeu – I don’t see that happening personally.
“I think an interim is more likely at Leicester. Some of the names that have been mentioned, Martin O’Neill, that would be a step back to the mid-1990s, you guys might know better than me if he would be up for that challenge.
“Dean Smith, who has connections because, of course, his No.2 Craig Shakespeare is a former Leicester manager, that’s another name doing the rounds.”
It’s thought that Shakespeare, who was sacked as manager in 2017, remains on good terms with the bosses at the King Power.
Crook also mentioned Vieira. “I think feels a bit sore about the way that it ended at Crystal Palace.
“He might be up for the challenge of taking over at Leicester between now and the end of the season.
“The other name that is always attached to these jobs is Rafael Benitez, but I don’t see him coming in for the final eight games of the season.”
