Derby County & Preston make Davis swoops

Derby County and Preston North End have made approaches to sign Aston Villa striker Keinan Davis, Football Insider can reveal.

The Midlands giants could have a decision to make on the immediate future of the 22-year-old as they look to secure him to a new contract.

A Villa source has told Football Insider that Derby and Preston have registered their interest in taking Davis on a season-long loan.

The Championship duo are both in the market for new centre-forwards ahead of the 5 October cut-off.

This comes after this site revealed last week the Midlands giants have offered Davis a new three-year contract.

Football Insider had exclusively revealed back in April that Villa had triggered an option to keep Davis at the club for a further 12 months, until the summer of 2021.

Dean Smith has faith in Davis’ potential but the signings of four senior strikers in the past year has pushed him down the pecking order at Villa Park.

Ollie Watkins and Bertrand Traore have been signed at a combined costs of a guaranteed £45million in the past fortnight.

Wesley joined last summer for £22m and Mbwana Samatta arrived in a £9.5million deal in January.

Smith blocked Davis from going on loan last season and, after a hamstring injury sidelined him for three months, was a regular starter after the lockdown due to the absence of Brazilian Wesley.

Davis made 23 senior appearances last season, four of which were Premier League starts, but scored just a single goal.

Since graduating from the Villa youth set-up, the attacker has made 67 appearances for the club and scored four goals and supplied five assists.

In other news, an Aston Villa £8million man has been tipped to quit after huge development.
