Aston Villa are in advanced talks to sign Villarreal defender Pau Torres, sources have told Football Insider.
The Midlands giants are closing in on the capture of the centre-back, 26, on a deal that runs until 2028 after making him a top summer target.
New sporting director Monchi is working on securing an agreement for Villa in what could potentially be a club-record deal.
Torres has made it clear he is very keen to join Villa and be reunited with his former manager Unai Emery.
Earlier this month (5 June), Football Insider revealed that the Villans made an official move to sign Torres and had been in contact with Villarreal over a deal.
The defender is entering the final year of his contract at the Spanish club and this summer may be their last chance to cash in on the academy product.
Back in April, Football Insider also revealed that Villarreal had been looking to offer Torres a new contract amid interest from Emery’s side.
The centre-back has spent the majority of his career with the La Liga side, beginning in their youth academy before moving up to the first team in 2018.
Torres has made 173 appearances for the first team over the years and has netted 12 goals and provided five assists and worked under Emery during his time in charge of the club before he left for Villa Park last year.
The former Villarreal boss hailed the Spain international as an integral part of Villarreal’s turnaround during his spell in charge.
