Aston Villa are set to weigh up Leon Bailey’s future as they tie down key stars to new deals, sources have told Football Insider.
This site revealed on Monday (5 June) that talks are ongoing between club captain John McGinn and Villa over a new contract – despite him having two years left to run on his current deal.
Bailey is in a similar position after joining the club from Bayer Leverkusen in a reported £25million deal in 2021.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the Jamaica international has a “big year ahead” after flattering to deceive at Villa Park so far.
It is believed he could be sold in the next 12 months if Villa want to recoup most of the big-money transfer fee paid to Leverkusen.
He has managed just six goals and six assists across 54 appearances in all competitions since coming to England.
Nevertheless, it is believed that Villa boss Unai Emery is a big fan of Bailey.
He started 17 of a possible 23 games after the arrival of the Spaniard in November 2022.
The winger, who earns a reported wage of £100,000-a-week at Villa Park, struggled with injury in his first season at the Midlands giants.
Aston Villa have already wrapped up a new deal for Tyrone Mings – with the England international signing a fresh three-and-a-half-year contract earlier this year, keeping him at the club until June 2026.
The Midlands giants will be on the hunt for reinforcements in attack this summer after qualifying for the Europa Conference League with a seventh-place finish in the 2022-23 campaign.
However, they must first overcome a playoff round before making it to the group stage – with the draw set to take place on 7 August.
