Aston Villa have set their sights on RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner and Leicester City star Kelechi Iheanacho ahead of the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
The duo are on the radar for the Midlands giants as they step up their push for a forward signing in the new year.
Werner, 27, is a fringe player at RB Leipzig and is currently out of the side.
Meanwhile, 27-year-old Iheanacho is out of contract at the end of this season and has featured sparingly for Leicester in recent weeks.
Villa are prioritising a striker signing in January – with manager Unai Emery keen to add someone who can deputise for Ollie Watkins and provide reinforcements in attack.
Watkins has notched 14 goals and eight assists in 24 appearances across all competitions so far in the 2023-24 campaign.
He has started every game in the Premier League this term, with Jhon Duran so far untrusted to play a key role in the English top flight.
Football Insider revealed last month (14 November) that Aston Villa are planning to let Duran go in January with a loan move most likely.
It is believed the youngster’s attitude has been questioned by Emery on multiple occasions and he has been told to make major improvements to fit in with the Spaniard’s no-nonsense demands.
Werner has hit two goals in 14 appearances this season after hitting 16 goals in 40 games for Leipzig in the 2022-23 campaign.
Iheanacho has notched six goals and two assists in 20 appearances for Leicester following their relegation from the Premier League last term.
