Finance Guru: Aston Villa could bag ‘£21.6m’ as two new four-year deals close

Aston Villa could earn as much as £21.6million in total from the Premier League’s two new prospective NFT sponsorship deals.

So says finance guru Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the money a non-fungible token partnership would generate.

Per The Athletic on Monday (14 March), the Premier League is on the verge of completing two separate league-wide NFT deals.

ConsenSys and Dapper Labs have reportedly been sounded out to create Premier League-branded digital collectables using blockchain technology.

A two-pronged deal could be worth up to £434m over four years, according to the Daily Mail in February.

Villa trousered £18.2m in commercial income in the Covid-hit 2020-21 financial year.

Plumley explained how the new NFT deals would further boost that figure.

“If £434m is right, we can work off some rough numbers,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“It should be said that this depends on how the money is broken down.

“If it works like the TV deal, you would assume the money gets carved up between the clubs. If you divide that by four years that’s £108.5m per year.

“If you split that equally and the clubs agree to that, you could get £5.4m per club, per year. Or, £21.6m over the length of the deal.

“But even if it is distributed in a more merit-based system, you are still looking at a few million quid per club.

“It’s a good bit of revenue for the likes of Aston Villa and maybe more potential for growth down the line if these deals take off.”

Aston Villa

Villa are currently are 9th in the Premier League after their 1-0 defeat to Arsenal last Saturday (19 March).

Steven Gerrard’s side are next in action at Wolves after the international break on 2 April.
