Frank Lampard blasts Chelsea for sloppy mistakes after coming from behind against struggling Aston Villa

FRANK LAMPARD ordered his Chelsea team to cut out the sloppy mistakes, despite beating Aston Villa 2-1.

Sub Christian Pulisic and striker Olivier Giroud scored inside two second half minutes after Kortney Hause grabbed a shock opener for struggling Villa.

The win cemented Chelsea’s place in the top four, but defeat for Villa kept them in the bottom three.

Blues boss Lampard, whose men now face Manchester City on Thursday, said: “It is important we don’t lose sight of some of the errors in the game as we conceded a poor goal.

“We played well in patches, but when they put us under pressure I thought we gave it away too easily.

“There are things we will definitely have to clean up for future games. I want to be positive but there were things we could improve.

“The games are looking different now, not just without the crowd but the details of the game, the tempo of matches and the  tiredness factor.

“We did not know what we were coming into but now we have three points when some teams around us lost points.”

As for the City game, Lampard added: “They will have a lot more possession and we will have to be more aggressive in terms of winning it back.”

Villa boss Dean Smith, whose team also drew 0-0 at home to Sheffield United five days ago, said: “The two games we’ve played, the players have been in the zone.

Strikes from Christian Pulisic and Olivier Giroud saw Chelsea battle from a goal down to win 2-1

“We should have won the first game and here we have come up against a top four Premier League side.

“Unfortunately, a little bit of quality and fortune favoured them.

“The thing we have worked on during the pause is being tougher  to beat and we have become that.

“People who saw that will know how hard  Chelsea had to work to break us down.

“It won’t be doom and gloom, even though it’s a big disappointment.

“We conceded two goals in two minutes and there was a little bit of luck with both of them.

“The second one was more frustrating, the ball was pulled back through Douglas Luiz’s legs and  it takes a big deflection off Conor Hourihane.”
