Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Jacob Ramsey is now undroppable at Aston Villa.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer claimed Ramsey was “the best midfielder on the pitch” during his side’s 3-1 defeat to Chelsea.
The 20-year-old has started 12 Premier League games this term, including all but one under Steven Gerrard, after a breakout campaign last season.
As per TheOther14 on Twitter today (28 December), he carried the ball 305 yards against Chelsea – further than any player who does not play for any one of the traditional top-six clubs.
“For me, the whole game, especially the first-half, Jacob Ramsey was the one who stood out for me,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“He’s getting the ball, he’s running with it through the middle with speed and close control. That’s what you want to see from midfielders.
“He was making Chelsea’s midfielders trackback and was causing them problems. He, for me, was the best midfielder on the pitch.
“I feel he’s really cemented his starting place in the Aston Villa midfielder. No matter who’s available he has to start.
“That youthfulness, that energy. I just love the way he runs with the ball. It’s just something Villa fans love to see.”
Ramsey scored his second goal for Aston Villa in the 2-0 win over Norwich City earlier this month (14 December).
The England youth international now has two goals and one assist in 44 games across all competitions for the Midlands giant.
