Alan Hutton has stated that he believes a deal taking Ollie Watkins from Brentford to Aston Villa “will get done” this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Villa full-back claimed that a transfer was likely to go ahead once the two clubs were able to compromise on a price for the striker.
As revealed by Football Insider, Ivan Toney’s arrival at the Bees from Peterborough United has opened the door for any potential suitors to wrap up a deal for the 24-year-old.
And Hutton foresees a deal being completed, provided the two teams can find common ground with their valuations of the player.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “The Ivan Toney transfer, I presumed that would leave the door open to really get the ball rolling.

“It still seems like they’re haggling over the price tag. Villa want to pay £18 million, Brentford want £25 million. Hopefully they can meet somewhere in the middle.
“I think this will get done at some stage, it’s just as soon as they can thrash out the little bit of money they’re toing and froing over.
“Again, he’s another young, exciting, talented player. This is what Villa need, this is what they’re missing. I really think this year they’re going for the right kind of player.”
Watkins enjoyed a hugely prolific season for Brentford in 2019/20, hitting 25 goals in 46 Championship outings.
The hitman joined the Bees from Exeter City in 2017 in a deal worth around £1.8 million, and has gone on to score 49 goals in 143 competitions for the club across all competitions.
