Hutton reacts as Chukwuemeka agrees contract terms

Alan Hutton has been left raving after hot prospect Carney Chukwuemeka revealed he has signed his first professional contract at Aston Villa.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Villa ace admits he is delighted with the focus the club are putting on developing young talent for the future.

The 16-year-old midfielder confirmed via his personal Instagram account on Monday that he had put pen to paper to commit his future to the Villans.

Speaking at the club’s AGM earlier this year, club chief Christian Purslow was quoted as saying that Chukwuemeka was “probably the best 16-year-old in England” after breaking into the Villans’ under-23 side.

Hutton believes that Purslow and the Villa board are right to prioritise youth development and insists it is great news the teenager has agreed terms to stay on board.

Hutton told Football Insider: “I saw that, we spoke about it not that long ago that Christian Purslow spoke earlier this season and kind of ripped into it, that it wasn’t good enough to have older players (in the under-23s), he wants those younger ones coming through.

“I think they’ve done really well this season, they’ve signed up a lot of upcoming talents, talent for the future and this is another one over the line.

“They’ve done well to keep him, there’s been a lot of interest so I think as a young player, looking at your future, you can see what Villa are trying to do, they’re trying to do something and make it positive for young players to eventually break into the first team.”

The Birmingham Mail report that Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool were all interested in a potential deal for Chukwuemeka before he signed a new contract.

Despite his age, he played regularly for the under-18s last season and broke into the under-23s as well.
