Injury expert: Aston Villa star may have ‘Suffered Another Setback’ after Weds reveal

Aston Villa wide man Bertrand Traore has suffered “another setback” that is delaying his return from injury.

So says injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Traore, 26, has missed close to two months of action after picking up a thigh injury on international duty with Burkina Faso.

As per Birmingham Live on Wednesday (1 December), Steven Gerrard revealed: “He won’t return to training until probably just before Christmas”.

Dinnery suggests that Traore will need several more weeks after his return to training before he is in contention for the first team.

“Gerrard initially said ‘some weeks’, which doesn’t sound great,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“He is a player who we have expected to be back in first-team contention for a while now.

“Dean Smith mentioned a potential return to play after the second international break. It seemed like just a case of building up sharpness.

“It seems like Traore has suffered another setback. We don’t really know the extent of the problem.

“He hasn’t had many minutes and he has these ongoing muscular issues. That is a worry in terms of possibly getting him back this year.

“You’d expect him to have a few weeks on the training pitches and then see where he goes from there. So I think we’re probably looking at early 2022.“

This site revealed on Monday (29 November) that Traore is one of three Villa stars who could be part of a January clearout.

The former Lyon man, who has not started a league match all season, is under contract until 2024.
