Iroegbunam tipped to explode at Aston Villa after ‘big’ news – Agbonlahor

Tim Iroegbunam may be set to explode between now and the end of the season for Aston Villa, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer suggested Iroegbunam’s emergence could force Steven Gerrard into a rethink in the transfer window.

The 18-year-old made his second first-team appearance in the 0-0 draw with Leicester City on Saturday (23 April) when he came off the bench for the last 14 minutes.

As quoted by Birmingham Live on Monday (25 April), Gerrard insisted the midfielder has a “big future” at Aston Villa and a “big career” ahead of him.

He moved to Villa Park from local rivals West Brom last summer (2021) and was rewarded with a new contract that runs until 2027 last month (18 March).

“The good thing is that if you are ready, you’re going to get a chance,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Steven Gerrard will give him more time over the next four games and see what he’s like.

“As much as we’ll be looking for players in the transfer window, if you’ve already got them in the youth team, you give them a chance.

“Gerrard will be looking at that. Your age doesn’t matter, if you’re ready you are in.”

Iroegbunam is the eighth-youngest player to feature in the Premier League this season and teammate Carney Chukwuemeka is the third-youngest.

Gerrard’s commitment to youth was highlighted further yesterday (26 April) when he tied down Jacob Ramsey to a new long-term contract.
