Kieran Maguire: Aston Villa looking to go beyond £18m as ‘ambitious’ plan revealed

Aston Villa plan to rebuild their commercial facilities in order to better the £18million sponsor and merchandise income earned in 2020-21.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Villa’s plans to revamp their on-site facilities.

Christian Purslow, 58, announced on Thursday (14 April) that the club intends to add over 7,000 seats to take capacity at Villa Park beyond 50,000.

The chief executive also revealed plans to upgrade its commercial and corporate facilities as part of a wholesale makeover.

Villa trousered £18m in commercial and sponsorship income over the last recorded financial year.

And Maguire claims that they are looking to further push the envelope in the commercial department in order to fulfil their “ambitious” dreams.

“I think Purslow is trying to control the controllable,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“TV revenue is determined externally, so they have no real control over that.

“They can offer the people who turn up to the stadium better facilities and opportunities to spend their money.

“If they can get them in earlier and leave later, that improves commercial take, merchandise sales and everything along with that.

“A club as ambitious as Villa has to take these opportunities. It’s of critical importance to boost that commercial income.”

Villa, who have lost their last four matches, are currently 14th in the Premier League.

Steven Gerrard’s side are next in action away to 9th-place Leicester City next Saturday (23 April).
