Manchester City fans made their thoughts about the Premier League well and truly known before their match against Aston Villa.
Earlier in the week, Pep Guardiola’s side were hit with over 100 charges of alleged breaches of financial rules by the Premier League.
It comes after a four-year investigation into their finances, with the alleged breaches spanning from the 2009/10 to 2017/18 seasons.
On Sunday, City hosted Villa in their first match since the charges were revealed.
As with every Premier League game, the competition’s anthem is played once both teams have walked out onto the pitch.
It was played at the Etihad Stadium, but a video posted on Twitter shows it was met with loud boos from the home fans.
A banner was also seen with a banner about David Pannick, the lawyer who is set to defend the club against the charges.
In reference to the hit by Manchester band The Smiths, the banner read: “Pannick on the streets of London.”
Despite the noises surrounding the club off the pitch, it appeared to do little to distract the players on it.
City took the lead after just four minutes thanks to Rodri’s header from a Riyad Mahrez corner.
Ilkay Gundogan doubled their lead towards the end of the first half after some good work from Erling Haaland in the build-up before Riyad Mahrez made it 3-0 at half time with a penalty.
