It is “time to go” for Emiliano Martinez at Aston Villa.
That is according to former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Martinez’s future at Villa.
On Monday (28 November), sources told this site that the 30-year-old’s long-term future at Villa Park is under threat amid friction with new manager Unai Emery.
The pair had a fall-out at Arsenal during the Spaniard’s spell as manager of the London club and there is still friction between the two.
The shot stopper was awarded a contract extension in January keeping him at the club until 2027.
But McAvennie has told Martinez to leave the club if his relationship with the new boss can’t be fixed.
“There is only one winner and that is the manager,” he told Football Insider.
“Unless you want to take him on and the club are behind you but I can’t see that happening. I would try and sort it out with the manager if I wanted to stay there.
“If the manager has not got any respect for you and you have not got any respect for him then it is pointless.
“He can go on the pitch and do a professional job but all week he will be miserable. It is a no-win situation.
“I think if you fall out with the manager and he does not like you then it is time to go.
“There will be a horrible atmosphere in the dressing room. It is a horrible situation so the best way is to just part company.”
