Leicester head into the summer without a manager after their relegation from the Premier League at the end of last month.

Dean Smith had been given the job of taking charge of their final eight league matches in attempt to turn the tide on their bad run of form and save drag them out of the relegation scrap.

Despite a win on the final day of the season, the Foxes’ relegation was confirmed, meaning the East Midlands side will be playing Championship football next season for the first time since 2014.

Scott Parker is the name most closely linked with the hotseat at the King Power Stadium.

The 42-year-old has been without a job since March after he was sacked by Belgian side Club Brugge.

The former England midfielder does have experience of earning promotion out of the Championship, having done so with Fulham and Bournemouth in two of the last four seasons.

Next Leicester manager odds (talkSPORT BET):

  • Scott Parker – 2/1
  • Dean Smith – 9/4
  • Steven Gerrard – 6/1
  • Graham Potter – 6/1
  • Rafa Benitez – 10/1
  • Martin O’Neill – 10/1
  • Steve Cotterill – 16/1
  • Daniel Farke – 16/1
  • Kieran McKenna – 16/1
  • Wayne Rooney – 16/1
  • Adam Sadler – 16/1

Smith has also been linked with a return the manager’s role at the club, in spite of not being able to maintain their Premier League status.

The 52-year-old, like Parker, has previous experience of achieving promotion from the Championship, having done so with Aston Villa in 2019, and is priced at 9/4 to have his contract extended.

Tied at 6/1 are two managers who were sacked from Premier League sides in the season that has just finished, in Steven Gerrard and Graham Potter.

Gerrard was relieved of his duties at Villa Park back in November with the club in danger of falling into a relegation battle, before Unai Emery came and steadied the ship, securing a top seven finish.

Potter, the former Brighton and Chelsea manager, was sacked by the owners at Stamford Bridge after less than seven months in charge of the West London side, and has been jobless since April.

Potter also has experience of managing in the Championship, his first role in English football was as Swansea boss, whom he guided to a 10th place finish following their relegation, and impressed enough to get the gig at Brighton were he proved very successful.

Two more managers linked with the job at 10/1 are Rafa Benitez and Martin O’Neill, both of whom have also got Championship promotions on their CV.

The Champions League winning Spaniard has been without a job since he left the role of Everton manger in January last year, and may be approached by the Leicester hierarchy to do a similar job with them as he did with Newcastle in 2016-17, earning promotion at the first time of asking.

Martin O’Neill has had previous success managing Leicester, getting them promoted to the Premier League in 1996 and even winning the League Cup on two occasions in his four and a half year stint at the club.

The Northern Irishman had previously announced his retirement from managing after leaving Nottingham Forest in 2019, but the prospect of a return to his former club could tempt him back into the game.
