Noel Whelan has labelled Aston Villa to sell January signing Mbwana Samatta a ‘waste of money’ as he nears a move to Fenerbahce.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Coventry City forward urged Villa to cash in on the Tanzanian forward.
Turkish outlet Takvim reported that Samatta had agreed to join Fenerbache on a season-long loan with an option to make the deal permanent next summer.
The 27-year-old scored on his Premier League debut for Villa in February but failed to find the net in his further 13 top-flight appearances.
Dean Smith has added Bournemouth striker Ollie Watkins to his striker options this window, paying more than £20million for the 24-year-old.
Whelan believes Villa have recognised that they made a mistake in signing Samatta and will “get him out the door as quickly as possible”.
