Phillips claims duo will become "heroes" if Villa beat drop

Kevin Phillips has claimed that Jack Grealish and Trezeguet will become “heroes for half of Birmingham” if Aston Villa beat the drop this afternoon.

The former Claret and Blue, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, said that Grealish, 24, is back to his best after his performance against Arsenal on Tuesday night.

Dean Smith’s side travel to West Ham today with just one goal separating themselves from 18th-placed Watford and the relegation zone.

Trezeguet‘s three goals in his last three appearances have lifted Villa out of the bottom three for the first time since February.

Phillips hailed the Egyptian and his captain ahead of the final fixture of the season today.

“All Jack needs to do now is be more of a goal threat,” he told Football Insider.

“His all round play the other night, his ball retention, his work rate and range of passing was top class. He led by example and put in a captain’s performance. You saw at the end when he was laying on the floor that he was totally exhausted.

“If they are to stay up, you would say Trezeguet and Grealish will be heroes for half of Birmingham.”

Grealish’s 40 appearances this season have yielded nine goals and eight assists and have turned the heads of many Premier League clubs, including Manchester United.

Relegation rivals Watford and Bournemouth travel to Arsenal and Everton respectively.
