Kevin Phillips urges Aston Villa sign Ross Barkley over Ruben Loftus-Cheek as the club consider a loan move for one of the two Chelsea midfielders.
The former Claret and Blue, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, is a big fan of Barkley, 26, and claimed that he “would really enhance” the Villa squad.
Sky Sports claim that Villa boss Dean Smith wants to add another midfielder to his ranks before the 5 October transfer deadline.
It is reported that Barkley and Loftus-Cheek are both loan targets with the West Midlands club unable to pursue permanent deals due to the £85million already spent this summer.
The Premier League rules stipulate that only one player can be loaned from one club to another.
When asked by Football Insider who he would rather see at Villa Park this season, Phillips said: “I would rather them signing Barkley.
