Pundit slams Aston Villa ‘hypocrite’ Ashley Young – ‘Stop crying, it’s painful’

Noel Whelan has slammed Ashley Young after his “hypocritical” comments about Arsenal celebrations following their win over Aston Villa.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 36-year-old has “spat his dummy out” after a “painful” defeat.

Bukayo Saka’s goal ensured Arsenal claimed a slender 1-0 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday (19 March) to boost their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.

Speaking post-match to club media, Villa left-back Young aimed a dig at the Gunners players – claiming they celebrated “like they won the league” at the full-time whistle.

Speaking to talkSPORT (20 March), Football Insider pundit Gabby Agbonlahor slammed the Arsenal players for “overdoing the celebrations”.

Whelan urged Young to “concentrate on staying in the side” after getting “skinned” by Saka all match long.

ā€œI donā€™t know what Ashley Young is crying about,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

ā€œJust get on with
your own game. I lost count of how many times he got skinned by Bukayo Saka
during the game, he probably had a sleepless night.

ā€œDonā€™t tell me
that when heā€™s scored and won a game that heā€™s not celebrated. Heā€™s a
hypocrite.

ā€œItā€™s painful to
lose a game, but letā€™s not go back to the schoolyard and spit your dummy out.

ā€œLet people celebrate a good win and a good goal ā€“ and Ashley, you just concentrate on staying in the side.”

Arsenal remain in pole position to return to the Champions League next season after Saturday’s win.

Mikel Arteta’s side are three points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham with a game in hand on their north London rivals.

However, the two sides are yet to play each other a second time.
