QPR open talks to sign Green – EXCLUSIVE

QPR have opened talks to sign Andre Green after his surprise exit from Aston Villa this summer, Football Insider understands.

The Villa academy product, 22, is a free agent after leaving the Premier League club when his contract expired.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that QPR are in the driving seat ahead of rival Championship and EFL clubs to land the winger.

TheĀ England Under-20 international is keen to join a club where he can play regularly and settle down after a series of spells out on loan.

Green spent the first half of last season at Preston North End before heading to Charlton Athletic in January.

He made a strong early impression at the Valley, with two goals in his first four matches.

But the versatile forward, who can play on the winger or spearhead the attack, then lost his form in a struggling side who were eventually relegated.

Green could be a free agent in July if Villa decide not to take up the option to extend his contract by 12 months, or offer him a new long-term deal.

The Midlands giants had the option to extend the forward’s contract by 12 months but chose not to do so.

Green played a key role in Villa’s promotion campaign in 2018-19 after spending the first half of the campaign at Portsmouth.

The forward featured in all three of their play-off matches and represented his boyhood team 49 times in total, scoring two goals.

In other news, Aston Villa have been hit by a big transfer blow after deal was on the cards.
