Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested Aston Villa starlet Jaden Philogene should be loaned out to a European club in order to further his development.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed a temporary move to the continent could be his best chance of eventually breaking into Unai Emery’s first-team squad.
Sources told this site on Friday (24 March) that Aston Villa rising star Jaden Philogene is wanted by European clubs like RC Lens, Anderlecht and Union Berlin in a potential summer move.
Multiple club representatives have travelled to watch the prospect in action for Cardiff – where he is on loan for the 2022-23 season.
Philogene has made 31 appearances for the Welsh club this season, scoring four.
The London-born winger, who is out of contract in 2024, is just the latest in a line of promising talents to emerge from the Aston Villa youth system – whose graduates include Jacob Ramsey and Cameron Archer.
Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “If he can get another loan out to Europe, it could be a good option.
“We’ve seen how it can really help players to go to another country and play at the top level there. It’s a different challenge to the Championship.
“He should want to test himself, and I think it’s perfect.
“We’ve seen how it has helped the likes of Jadon Sancho, and now Balogun from Arsenal.
“I think it could well be his best chance of getting in this Villa side.”
