September Primer: The Waiting Game

Aston Villa first team transfer news:

And yes, that is a cause for nerves to build but not a cause for panic yet. Clearly Dean Smith & co have a shopping list and a plan. The deals are taking longer than anyone associated with Aston Villa would like but new players will come. The top of the shopping list seems to include: Striker Ollie Watkins from Brentford, and RB/CM Matty Cash from Nottingham Forest. Both are reportedly (read: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) close-ish. I think I have made it clear that they are not done deals and holding up the shirt yet.

There are a slew of other names that are around on Twitter — you can check out those rumors for yourself. I’d go ahead and bet there are plenty of names on the shopping list most of us would have to go to Google for to get to know.

Transfers out news: James Bree has joined Luton Town on a permanent deal today. The right back, who never really got a chance with the first team after joining in January 2017, was rumored to be out the door all summer. So it is a deal done.

Fixtures

Manchester City — Postponed

Sheffield United (H) — September 20

Fulham (A) — September 27

The big question remains Jack Grealish. The captain has been called up to England (finally). There have been zero firm rumors or reports of a bid anywhere near Villa’s valuation. There have been no reports of Jack raising issues with the club or demanding a move or anything like that. There is a growing confidence that Grealish may be in Claret in blue in October when the transfer window closes.

October 5 is very far away when it comes to Jack and far too close when to incoming transfers.

And we all watch Twitter for the latest reports.
