Sources: 44-yr-old who left Aston Villa last month in talks to join PL club

Bournemouth are in talks with ex-Aston Villa assistant manager Neil Critchley about joining Gary O’Neil’s management team, sources have told Football Insider.

Our site broke the news on Monday (21 November) that O’Neil is set to be appointed the club’s new manager on a permanent basis after talks with Marcelo Bielsa collapsed.

Football Insider updated on Thursday morning (24 November) that the 39-year-old has agreed a two-and-a-half year contract and the deal could be announced on Friday.

O’Neil is keen to add highly-respected coach Critchley to his backroom team and negotiations are well underway.

Critchley, 44, who has recently been linked with the Luton Town and Wigan jobs, has been out of work since leaving Aston Villa following Steven Gerrard’s sacking last month.

He left his position as Blackpool’s manager to replace Michael Beale on Gerrard’s coaching staff.

Gerrard and his coaching staff left Villa Park last month (20 October) after his side won just two of their opening 12 Premier League games.

O’Neill has been in temporary charge of Bournemouth since Scott Parker was sacked at the end of August.

The Cherries won their last two games before the World Cup break leaving the former West Ham midfielder with a win rate of 33.3 per cent.

Bournemouth

Bournemouth are up to 14th in the Premier League table, three points above the relegation zone.

They return to top-flight action on 27 December when they travel to Chelsea.
